In the census for 1900 he was listed with his parents and siblings on the Fjeldly (Wiesebarakken) farm in Glemminge. At the time he was a steamship stoker/firemand and was temporarily in England.

• He was an engineer on a steamship. In the 1900 census he was a stoker on a steamship.

Sigurd married Signe Marie Hansen, daughter of Hans Edvard Hansen and Caroline Sophie Hansdatter Krosnæs. (Signe Marie Hansen was born on 5 Dec 1891 in Krosnæs, Onsøy, Østfold, Norway and was christened on 1 Jan 1892 in Onsøy, Østfold, Norway.)
