Another name for Frederick was Friedrich I von Hessen-Kassel. General Notes: The first Swedish king to reign (1720-51) during the 18th-century Age of Freedom, a period of parliamentary government. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: King of Sweden, 1720. • Acceded: Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel, 1730. Frederick married Louise Dorothea Hohenzollern, daughter of Frederick I William Hohenzollern and Elizabeth Henrietta of Hesse-Cassel, on 31 May 1700.1 (Louise Dorothea Hohenzollern was born in 1680 and died in 1705.) Frederick next married Ulrica Eleonora von Simmern, daughter of Charles XI of Sweden von Simmern and Ulrica Eleanor of Denmark Oldenburg, on 4 Apr 1715. (Ulrica Eleonora von Simmern was born on 7 Feb 1688 and died in 1741 1.) |
