General Notes: He participated in archaeological expeditions in Sweden, Greece, and China, and his work as a botanist earned him admission (1958) to the British Royal Academy. His grandson, Carl Gustaf, succeeded him as Charles XVI Gustavus. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: King of Sweden, 1950. Gustav married Margaret Victoria of Sweden Wettin, daughter of Arthur William Patrick Wettin and Louise Margaret of Prussia Hohenzollern, on 15 Jun 1905 in St.George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. (Margaret Victoria of Sweden Wettin was born on 15 Jan 1882 in Bagshot Park, Surrey, England and died on 1 May 1920 in Royal Palace, Stockholm, Sweden.) Gustav next married Louise Alexandra Mountbatten, daughter of Louis von Battenberg and Victoria Alberta von Hessen, on 3 Nov 1923 in Chapel Royal, St James Palace, England. |
