Prince Joachim matriculated in modern languages from Øregaard Gymnasium in 1986 at the same time as his elder brother, the Crown Prince, and until then received the same education. In 1978 Schackenborg manor in Møgeltønder was given to him and his further education was therefore directed towards estate management, apart from his military service 1987-1990.

Joachim married Alexandra Christina Manley, daughter of Richard Nigel Manley and Christa Nowotny, on 18 Nov 1995 in Chapel, Frederiksborg Castle, Hillerød near Copenhagen, Denmark. (Alexandra Christina Manley was born on 30 Jun 1964 in Hong Kong.)


  Marriage Notes:

The couple took up residence at Schackenborg in connection with their wedding. On 28 August 1999 the couple had a son, Prince Nikolai William Alexander Frederik.
