William George I of Hellenes Oldenburg 1
Cause of his death was assasination. General Notes: King of the Hellenes (Greece). George I was the second son of Christian IX of Denmark and was elected king of Greece after the deposition (1862) of Otto I. He introduced (1864) a democratic constitution and expanded the Greek domain. He was assassinated. 2 Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: 1863. King of Greece. William married Olga Constantinovna Romanov, daughter of Constantine Nikolaievitch Romanov and Elizabeth Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg, on 27 Oct 1867. (Olga Constantinovna Romanov was born on 3 Sep 1851 and died on 18 Jun 1926.) |
