Henry IV Plantagenet 1 2
Another name for Henry was Henry Bolingbroke. General Notes: Henry IV spent much of the early part of his reign fighting to keep control of his lands. Exiled for life by Richard II in 1399, Henry's successful usurpation did not lead to general recognition of his claim (he remained unrecognised as King by Charles VI of France). Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: King of England, 13 Oct 1399, Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, England. Henry married Mary de Bohun, daughter of Humphrey de Bohun and Joan Fitzalan, on 27 Jul 1380 in Arundel Castle, Sussex, England. (Mary de Bohun was born circa 1369 and died on 4 Jul 1394 in Peterborough Castle.) The cause of her death was childbirth. Marriage Notes: In 1380 Henry married Mary de Bohun. They had two daughters and four sons, one of which was the future Henry V of England. In 1406, one of their daughters, Philippa, married Eric of Pomerania, king of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. 3 Henry next married Jeanne d' Évreux, daughter of Charles I d' Évreux and Jeanne de France, in 1403. (Jeanne d' Évreux was born circa 1370 in Pamplona, Spain, died on 9 Jul 1437 in Dower House 'Pirgo', Havering-atte-Bower, Essex, England and was buried in Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, Kent, England.) |
