Matilda II of Boulogne 1
General Notes: Matilda was the daughter of Ida, Countess of Boulogne and her husband and co-ruler Count Renaud of Boulogne. She succeeded her mother in 1216. She first married Count Philippe Hurepel of Clermont-en-Beauvais, Mortain, Aumale, and Dammartin. She later married King Alfonso III of Portugal, both of whom were co-rulers during the marriages. Noted events in her life were: • She was a Countess of Boulogne from 1216 to 1258. Matilda married Alfonso III of Portugal, son of Afonso II the Fat of Portugal and Urraca of Castile, in 1238. The marriage ended in divorce. (Alfonso III of Portugal was born on 5 May 1215 and died on 16 Feb 1279.) Marriage Notes: Alfonso and Matilda had a son Roberto (1239). |
