General Notes: A Pietist, he carried out a peaceful foreign policy. In 1733 he established a form of serfdom. His son Frederick V succeeded him. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: 1730. King of Denmark and Norway. Christian married Sophie Magdalene Brandenburg-Kulmbach, daughter of Christian Henry Brandenburg-Kulmbach and Unknown, on 7 Aug 1721. (Sophie Magdalene Brandenburg-Kulmbach was born on 28 Nov 1700 and died on 27 May 1770 in Christiansborg, near Copenhagen, Denmark.) |
