Johanne married Thorstein Johnsen, son of Thorsten Johnsen and Anne Knutsdatter. (Thorstein Johnsen was born in 1835 in Eidskogen, Hedmark, Norway.)

In the census for 1900 Thorstein and Sofie lived at Kasernegade 50 in Fredrikstad. They had two children with them: Theodor and Clara. The census shows three outbuildings at the address: "Skomagerværksted, bryggerhus og vedskur" [shoemaker's shop, washhouse and woodshed]. ¹
