The census of 1865 shows his birthplace as Eidsberg. ⁴

Johan married Anne Marie Hansdatter. (Anne Marie Hansdatter was born in 1814 and died in 1845.)

Johan had a child with Anne Henriksdatter.¹ (Anne Henriksdatter was born in 1815 in Eidsberg, Østfold, Norway.)

Johan next married Johanne Marie Arnesdatter after 1845. (Johanne Marie Arnesdatter was born in 1827 in søndre Hen, Eidsberg, Østfold, Norway, died on 26 Jul 1875 in Sekkelstenengen, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 3 Aug 1875.)

In the census for 1865 they owned and farmed one (76b2) of the Sekkelsten farms in Askim. Johan was 60 and Johanne was 40 years old. They had their three surviving daughters and two sons with them. ⁴
