In the census for 1865 there is one Hans of the right age living with his widowed mother on one of the Østenstad farms (102) in Asker who is probably the same person as Hans Martin Østenstad:

Erik Larsen, hendes Søn, ug, 18, Asker;
Hans Micaelsen, hendes Søn, ug, 10, Asker;
Lars Micaelsen, hendes Søn, ug, 9, Asker. ³

• He was a shipmaster [Skibskaptein].

Hans married Amalie Gundersen. (Amalie Gundersen was born on 25 Aug 1856 in Asker, Akershus, Norway.)

  Marriage Notes:

In the census for 1900 Hans Martin and Maren Amalie were living at Vibes Gade 22 in Kristiania. They had 3 daughters with them: Jenny Agathe, Ingrid, and Harriet Margit Amalie. ²
