Blanche of Castile 1 2
Another name for Blanche was Blanca de Castilla. General Notes: Queen of Louis VIII of France and regent during the minority (1226–34) of their son Louis IX. A forceful and capable ruler, she checked the coalitions of the great lords and frustrated the attempt (1230) of Henry III of England to regain his father's lands in France. She remained a lifelong adviser to Louis IX, was again regent on his departure (1248) for the Holy Land, and was coregent with her son Alphonse from 1250 until her death. Research Notes: Her life is also recorded as ca 1183 - 01 Dec 1252. Blanche married Louis VIII the Lion of France Capet, son of Philip II Augustus of France Capet and Isabella of Hainault, on 23 May 1200. (Louis VIII the Lion of France Capet was born on 5 Sep 1187 in Paris, France and died on 8 Nov 1226 in Auvergne, France.) |
