  • Marriage: Maud of Carinthia in 1123
  • Died: 10 Jan 1152, Lagny-sur-Marne, France aged 59

  General Notes:

Count of Blois and of Chartres and count of Champagne as Theobald II. He was the grandson of Theobald III of Blois. Theobald IV reunited Champagne with Blois and thus again made his house a threat to the royal domains of France from both east and west. He became in effect the second person of France, alternatively the ally and the enemy of Louis VI and Louis VII. He helped his brother Stephen become king of England (1135). The countship was at the zenith of its power.

Brian Tompsett calls him "Theobald III of Blois" (born ca 1088). Count of Blois 4. 3rd Count Palatine of Champaigne.

Noted events in his life were:

• He was a Count of Blois, 4th.

• Acceded: 1102. Count of Chartres.

• Acceded: 1125. Count of Champagne.

Theobald married Maud of Carinthia, daughter of Ingelbert II of Carinthia and Unknown, in 1123.
