General Notes: Known as "The Priest-Hater". Eirik tried to limit the rights of german merchants in Norway, leading to a blockade from the Hanse cities. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: King of Norway, 1280, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. Eirik married Margaret of Scotland, daughter of Alexander III of Scotland and Margaret of England, on 31 Aug 1281 in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. (Margaret of Scotland was born on 28 Feb 1261 in Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, England, died on 9 Apr 1283 in Tønsberg, Vestfold, Norway and was buried in Christ Kirk, Bergen, Norway.) Eirik next married Isabel de Bruce, daughter of Robert de Brus and Margaret Carrick, on 25 Sep 1293. (Isabel de Bruce was born circa 1272 in Carrick, Argyll, Scotland and died in 1358.) |
