Richard var formynder for Bosos sønn, Ludvig, som etterfulgte Boso som konge.

Richard of Autun (ca.850 – September 1, 921) was count of Autun and the first duke of Burgundy. The duchy was entrusted upon him by king Charles II of France, his brother in law, in 887. The lands of Burgundy initially comprised the counties of Autun, Macon, Chalon-sur-Sane, Langres, Nevers, Auxerre and Sens, but in the following centuries, the duchy would expand far beyond these counties. Richard married Adelaide of Auxerre in 888 and had several sons and daughters, amongst which Rudolf, his successor, Hugh, Duke of Burgundy and Ermengarde, married to Gilbert of Chalon, Duke of Burgundy.

  Noted events in his life were:

• Acceded: 1st Duke of Burgundy, 887.

• He was a Count of Autun.


Richard married Adelaide of Auxerre, daughter of Konrad II der Jüngere of Burgundy and Ermentrude of Alsace, in 888. (Adelaide of Auxerre was born circa 849 and died circa 929.)
