John bought the Hobøl Søndre farm in Askim from his mother on 09 January 1843 for 650 spdlr. and a pension for her.

The 1865 census records his age then as 49 years old.

  Medical Notes:

John was 47 years old when he died in 1866. He died "under et ophold paa Bjørnstadbroten", it says in the churchbook.

John married Helene Christensdatter Mørktvedt on 25 Sep 1841 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Helene Christensdatter Mørktvedt was born circa 1822 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married John was 22 and Helene was 19 years old. They had at least 9 children. He was from the Hobbel farm and she was from Mørktvedt Teien.

In 1865 the family was living on part of the Hobøl farm in Askim. John was a laborer [dagarbeider]. There were four daughters and two sons, all unmarried. Their daughter Oline is not listed with them. She was by then the foster daughter of Lars Gundersen and Gunhild Johannesdatter on the Katralen farm.
