She was the daughter of George Carey, 2nd Baron Hunsdon of Hunsdon.

In 1618 she purchased the estate of Cranford, Middlesex for £7,000 from the coheirs of Sir Richard Aston.

Elizabeth married Sir Thomas Berkeley, son of Henry Berkeley and Katherine Howard, on 19 Feb 1595 in Blackfriars, London, England. (Sir Thomas Berkeley was born on 11 Jul 1575 in Callowdon, Warwickshire, England, died on 22 Nov 1611 in Callowdon, Warwickshire, England and was buried in St. Michael's, Coventry, West Midlands, England.)
