Another name for Richard was Richard le Bon. General Notes: He held his own against a peasant insurrection, helped Robert II of France against the duchy of Burgundy, and repelled an English attack on the Cotentin Peninsula that was led by the Anglo-Saxon king Ethelred II the Unready. He also pursued a reform of the Norman monasteries. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: 4th Duke of Normandy, 996. Richard married Judith (de Rennes) of Brittany, daughter of Conan I the Crooked of Brittany and Ermengard of Anjou, in 1000. (Judith (de Rennes) of Brittany was born circa 982 in Bretagne, France and died on 16 Jun 1017.) Richard next married Estrid Svendsdatter, daughter of Svend I Haraldsson Tjugeskjegg of Denmark and Sigrid Toftesdatter Storråde, in 1017. The marriage ended in divorce. |
