Mary married Hans Andersen, son of Anders Trulsen Løken and Tore Halvorsdatter Rom, on 10 Dec 1867 in Meriden, Steele, Minnesota, USA. (Hans Andersen was born on 11 Mar 1840 in Moen nedre, Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 16 Apr 1840 in Askim, Østfold, Norway and died on 17 Jul 1921 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, USA.)
Marriage Notes:
1870 Census 15 Aug: Hans aka John was running a hotel in Owatonna, MN. Son Albert was one year old.
1879 land records of Steele Co. Lemond, MN show John owning SE¾ of Section 33 of Twp 106, Range 21 and in Meriden ¼ north west Section 2 of Twp 107, Range 21.
1880 Census 11 June: Lemond, Steele Co. MN John and Mary B. 20 June 1892 NE ¼ Sec 26, Twp 142, Range 61 $8.00
30 July 1894 Timber Culture SE ¼ Sec 26 Twp 142 Range 61 $4.00
2 May 1895 Purchase of Wimbledon Hotel from Adam Schroth $1500.00 Lot six (6) and Lot seven (7) in Block five (5).
1895-96 "Jamestown, Stutsman County Directory" pp. 143 and 145 lists John Anderson as proprietor and daughters Emma, Lilly, and Maggie as working there. Neither John's wife Mary B nor daughter Anna B. are listed. Possibly Anna B was already married to John L. More by this time. He is listed as boarding at the hotel. John's son William a laborer was also boarding there. Possibly those residing at the hotel were only listed if they paid the bill. This would explain why Mary B. and daughter Anna B. were not listed.
Problem: "Jamestown, Stutsman Count Directory" lists only one hotel called Wimbledon Hotel. The anniversary book Wimbledon 100 Years p.10 col. 2 1899 says "J.H. Anderson, Palace Hotel". Next on pp.22 Wimbledon 100 Years col.1 Wimbledon Cafe "…Adam Schroth built a hotel at this location, which was run for many years by J. J. Anderson (typo should read J.H.) In 1895, Mrs. Vallandingham opened a restaurant there." Purchase of the hotel by J.H. Anderson from Adam Schroth as filed with the Barnes County Recorder in Valley City 2 May 1895. 1900 Census 4 June: John Anderson is listed as "hotel keeper" and Mary B. as "Teaching School".
4 January 1902 sale of Wimbledon Hotel to Fred W. Wessel for $5000.00. Lot six (6) and Lot seven (7) of Block five (5). Evidently part of the deal included the transfer of Wessel's SE1/4 Section 30 Twp 142 Range 61 for $1800.00 because it occurred on the same day.
14 June 1902 purchase of Lot three(3), Block eight (8) by J.H. Anderson from J. W. Warren for $110.00.
24 October 1917 sale of Lots three (3) and four (4), Block eight (8) by John H. and Mary Anderson to Adelina Moore for $5000.00.
Adeline (Joos) Moore was the daughter of Andrew Joos, Mary B's brother. *See Wimbledon 100 Years p. 233 col 1 "Home of Turner A. Moore". The house built by J.H. and Mary Anderson can also be seen on p.239 col 2 "The Keith Hovland home…among the first …built in Wimbledon".
John Hans and Mary Barbara according to the WimbledonNews decided to move to the coast in April 1907. However, in the August 28 edition he was back visiting granddaughters Gladys and Marion Hanson children of Al and Mary (Anderson) Hanson.
1910 Census 8 April John H. Anderson is back in Wimbledon staying with daughter and son-in-law John L. and Anna B. (Anderson) More. Mary B(Joos) Anderson is at home in Portland, OR with daughter Emma.
1920 Census both J.H. and Mary B are at home in Portland and with them are son Albert, Janitor in an office building, and son-in-law Albert Hanson (daughter Mary's husband) a night watchman in an office building.
17 July 1921 John Hans Anderson died in Portland OR aged 81 years.
1930 Census 2 April Mary Barbara was living in the house she owned. With her was a boarder, Mary Slater. This particular census asks whether or not people had a "radio set". Mary B. did not.
28 March 1935 Mary Barbara (Joos) Anderson died in Portland OR aged 84. 1
