With the beginning of the 20th century Lars Mattisen lived on the Karlsrud (u. Nedre Rud) farm in Askim with his family. Later they are found on Åsrud under Kykkelsrud.

  Research Notes:

The census for 1900 lists him as born in Tune, Smaalenene [Østfold]. Varteig belonged to Tune clerical district from 1685 to 1860. It became its own district in 1861.

  Noted events in his life were:

• He was a lumberjack or raftsman [tømmerfløter].


Lars married Bolette Julie Mattisdatter, daughter of Mathis Christiansen and Elen Hansdatter, on 9 May 1887 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Bolette Julie Mattisdatter was born on 28 Jan 1858 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, christened on 21 Feb 1858 in Askim, Østfold, Norway, died on 15 Apr 1903 in Karlsrud, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 24 Apr 1903.)
