From the mid 1780's Hans worked the Blunkeslett farm in Askim. His brother-in-law, Hans, and his father-in-law, Mattis Hansen, had farmed there before him. Hans Kristiansen and his family moved to Tømtplass in the beginning of the 1790's.


Hans married Dorte.


Hans next married Johanne Mattisdatter, daughter of Mattis Hansen Blunkeslett and Margrete Torersdatter, on 22 Mar 1784 in Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Johanne Mattisdatter was born in 1761.)

When they married they were recorded as Hans Christiansen Henstad og Johanne Mathisdatter Henstad. 1
