Hans Kristoffersen 2 3 4

  • Born: Cir 1789, Spydeberg, Østfold, Norway
  • Marriage (1): Kari Hansdatter
  • Marriage (2): Berte Paulsdatter on 29 Oct 1833 in Askim church, Askim, Østfold, Norway 1
  • Died: 26 Aug 1869, Grønli u. Øvre Rud, Askim, Østfold, Norway aged 80
  • Buried: 3 Sep 1869

Other names for Hans were Hans Christofersen and Hans Christophersen.

  General Notes:

Hans was a cottager on the Kjellegård (u. Nordre Rom) farm in Askim until into the 1820's. He worked the Kykkelsruddalen in Askim during the 1830's and 1840's. He was married with Kari Hansdatter and with Berte Paulsdatter (born ca 1795, Skiptvet).

It appears that he was given the Grønli u. Øvre Rud farm in Askim in 1842, and the conveyance was registered on 3 November 1855. In 1865 he is called a cottager and labourer. It is likely that he had sold the Grønli farm in the mean time to A.Z. Dahl.

He was 77 years old in the 1865 census.

  Research Notes:

In the census for 1801 there was one Hans Christophersen who was 12 years old. This is probably the same person since the only other Hans Christophersen in that census was 4 years old. In 1801 Hans was living with his cottager parents and his siblings on the Vestbye Østre farm in Spydeberg. 5

Noted events in his life were:

• He was a miller [møller].

Hans married Kari Hansdatter. (Kari Hansdatter died before Oct 1829.)

Hans next married Berte Paulsdatter, daughter of Povel Bergersen and Ingeborg Fredriksdatter, on 29 Oct 1833 in Askim church, Askim, Østfold, Norway.1 (Berte Paulsdatter was born circa 1795 in Skiptvet, Østfold, Norway, died on 13 May 1873 in Grønli u. Øvre Rud, Askim, Østfold, Norway and was buried on 25 May 1873.)

  Marriage Notes:

They were not married when their son Ole was baptised in November 1829. Hans was a widower by then.

When they married Hans was recorded as widowed and 42 years old from the Kykkelsrud farm in Askim. Berte was 37 years old from Skiptvedt.

They were cottagers on Grønli u. Øvre Rud in Askim in 1865. 1 3
