In the census for 1801 Hans and Mari were cottagers on the Houg Østre farm in Eidsberg. He was 60 years old and in his second marriage, and she was 62 and in her first. Christian Christensen, his daughter Christine's son, was with them. Also with them was Anna Andersdatter, 76 years old, who was Hans' first wife's sister. 2
