Lars married Marthe Eriksdatter, daughter of Erik Nielsen and Unknown, on 12 Apr 1851 in Askim church, Askim, Østfold, Norway.¹ (Marthe Eriksdatter was born circa 1828 in Filipstad, Värmlands län, Sweden.)

  Marriage Notes:

When they married Lars was recorded as 21½ years old and Marthe was 23. He was from the lille Mørktvedt farm in Askim. She was from Eda sogn in Sweden. His father was recorded as Frants Christiansen and hers was Erik Nielsen.

When their daughter Kirstine was baptised in April 1857, and when their son Johan Martin was baptised in June 1862 they were called Lars Frantsen og Marthe Eriksdr Tømt.

In the census for 1865 Lars was a day laborer on the Eeg østre (plads) farm in Askim. He was 40 years old and married with Marthe, 43, who was from Sweden. They had one daughter and three sons with them: Kirstine (9), Frants (7), Johan (4), and Thorvald (1). Their daughter Marie was not with them. ^{1 2}
