In the census for 1801 Hans was 13 years old and living with his parents on the Sentvedt Øvre farm in Trøgstad.

It is not clear who his mother was. In 1801 the family was:

Hans Axelsen, Deres børn, 13, Ugift;

Christian Axelsen, Deres børn, 5, Ugift;
Frans Evensen, Deres børn, 9, Ugift;
Dorte Evensdtr, Deres børn, 10.
