This is a story of a family that goes back to the middle ages and beyond. The story is primarily centred in Norway, but has deep roots. Branches have extended all over Europe and have transplanted in North America as well. There are over 38,000 leaves currently on the tree.I thank all who have helped and continue to contribute.
This started as a personal project to record our family history in a way that could be easily navigated on the computer. The family history was already documented in the early 1930's by Magna Aaser in the "family book" entitled EN GAMMEL SLEKT FRA ASKIM. My father and his siblings are documented amoung the most contemporary generation recorded by her. Magna Aaser began her book with the story of Halvor Kolstad, born in the mid-1600's, but records a family line going back to Sigurd Sjøfarsen Rosensværd who was born about 1380.
On a final introductory note, this site does more than document a family tree. It has grown into a family forest with many trees. However, every person is linked to every other person, either through blood or marriage (or equivalent). On entering the labyrinth, keep one hand constantly on a wall!
In Feb 1991 Lars Løberg, Vice Consul of Norway, delivered a cautionary paper that is worth noting.
Meanwhile, I wish you an interesting exploration.
